Early last year, I did maternity portraits for Mikayla. I can’t believe it’s been that long already! Of course, the day that we had chosen to do her portraits, we had a pretty awful snow storm. Luckily, there was a barn on the property that had a beautifully finished area to act as our studio for the day and provide a break from the freezing cold outside. After we took photos both inside and outside, we traveled nearby to take a few more outside portraits. Between the cold and the quickly falling snow, we weren’t able to spend too much time outside. However, sometimes a few minutes is all you need. Contact me today to schedule a consultation. I would love to talk to you about your ideal portrait session.

Framed Portraits

Your family portraits As a full-service photographer, there’s not much I love more than a family enjoying their portraits up on the walls of their home. I know how valuable it is for those to be something you and your children see day in and day out. Especially as they grow and change before your eyes. Each change is incremental, but before you know it, they won’t be the same as they were during your portrait session. If you walked into my house, you would certainly see a mess… but if you took a moment to look past that, you would see what truly matters to me. Of course, the mess comprised of children’s toys and books is a piece of that puzzle, but the images up on the walls and shelves are another. I want that for my clients too. No, no, not the mess. I want my clients to walk into their living room every day and see the people they love most up on the wall. I want that for you. While everybody has different preferred mediums, framed portraits are a great way to enjoy your images as the artwork they are. I pride myself on offering […]

5 Tips for a Successful Newborn Session Things you can do to help your newborn session go smoothly. You’ve carefully selected a photographer, your baby has been born, and a session date has been set. You’re so close to capturing these vital memories, but there are a few things that will help make sure you get the pictures you’ve dreamt of. Here are 5 tips for a successful newborn session. Follow these and you’re sure to get images you cherish for the rest of your life. Feed on demand. Whether breast or bottle feeding, feeding on demand will help us sail smoothly through the newborn portrait session. If your new addition isn’t falling into a deep sleep for those adorable posed shots, a top up could be just what s/he needs. Dress light. During the newborn session, the room is kept warm. Newborns can’t regulate their temperature well, and as we remove layers of clothing, it’s important that the room temperature is high enough to keep them comfortable. This will make it uncomfortable for the rest of us, and I know I’ll be sweating by the end of the session. Your clothing choices will really determine your comfort level, so […]

Jackson Michigan Area Newborn Photography: Persephone I absolutely love newborn photography because it allows me to capture a moment in time that goes by so fast. It’s amazing how much they change in the early days. Little Persephone was born a bit early, but by the time I took her portraits at only 2 weeks old, you would hardly tell by looking at her. She was a such a cutie, and she slept beautifully during her newborn portrait session. I was only able to photograph so many different “themes” with Persephone because she was such a perfect baby. I got all of the photos that I wanted to, and even fit in some simple “Christmas” themed photos, which was great because I was dying to use my Christmas ornament props! That’s right, I used ornaments as props. I’m not sure where the bear came from, but the green mug was from Target. (You can really find everything at Target.) Next year I’ll have to remember to scour the Christmas ornaments for other cute finds. At the end of the session, we did a few different sibling and family shots. Big sister was so excited to take part, and was such […]

#throwbackthursday Jillian’s Baby Portraits at Millpond Park It has been about two years since I photographed baby Jillian at Millpond Park in Saline, Michigan. The session went so well, and two years later I am still totally in love with the portraits I captured. I’m so glad I got to photograph little Jillian. This session and these images are what made me fall in love with prints, and sent me on the path I’m on today as a primarily print photographer. I am so glad that her family has these beautiful images as tangible prints, and that they aren’t just on a hard drive somewhere. To schedule a consultation for your own baby’s portraits, contact me.

The #michaelschallenge has been making its rounds on the internet, so I decided to hop on the Bandwagon. Why not? Especially after Michael’s themselves endorsed it on Facebook! It’s not anything I ever would have thought to do on my own. But it really was a fun way to step outside the box! Children’s Portraits at Arborland Michael’s – Esther and Mae – #MichaelsChallenge I traveled to the Arborland Michael’s store (located off 23 at the edge of Ann Arbor) to photograph Esther and Mae. These two little girls had a blast exploring the store, as did I. This challenge really helped me look at products in a whole new light, and I had to keep myself from buying everything I saw! The girls were definitely on my side. They wanted what seemed like everything! Have you tried the #michaelschallenge? Do you want to? Contact me to set up your own session in Jackson or Ann Arbor!

Product Feature: Heritage Wood Prints

These gorgeous wood prints have to be one of my favorite products out of everything that I offer. I’ve tried out other wood print products before, but found that I didn’t like the wood grain showing through the skin on images. However, these prints are different. They are technically a fine art print that is adhered onto wood, so the image looks exactly as it was intended, but it still has the beautiful wood edges. My wall art offerings are specifically chosen so that you can mix and match different types beautifully and seamlessly. I can help walk you through your selections. Think you want a wood print but aren’t sure? You’ll be able to look at all of my sample products at your consultation, and again at your ordering appointment. You won’t feel lost making decisions about what to do with your images as I am there to guide you through the whole process. About our heritage wood prints: Available as a circle print up to 20″ across Easy to hang! Come with a keyhole slot in the back Available with or without worn edges (sample photos above show worn edges) UV coated for protection Want to see […]

Lillie Park, Ann Arbor – Outdoor Maternity Portraits – Mariah For her outdoor maternity portraits, Mariah and I decided to meet up at the beautiful Lillie Park in Ann Arbor. Although I am primarily a Jackson, Michigan photographer, I sometimes travel to meet clients in the Ann Arbor area. Having grown up near Ann Arbor, I’m very familiar with the city. It’s a bonus that Ann Arbor has a variety of stunning locations, such as Lillie Park, to take beautiful photographs at. Lillie Park was a wonderful setting for an outdoor maternity portrait session. Despite being right near a main road (and the expressway!), the park felt private and secluded. Between the abundance of plants and the small lake in the park, it was perfect. This outdoor maternity portrait session took place in the fall and anybody from Michigan knows that it’s beautiful outdoors here in the fall. When planning her portrait session, I was hopeful that the weather would cooperate and we would get some wonderful autumn images. Although it was still greener outside than I was hoping, I love how the images turned out. Mariah already had two daughters, but this was her first maternity portrait session. I […]

Newborn through Cake Smash Portraits A baby’s first-year photography plan is one of my favorite things to do as a maternity and newborn photographer. It’s so exciting to get to watch a little one grow up and hit all those milestones in their first year. Having a plan ready to go from the beginning is the best way to ensure your baby’s milestones aren’t missed. I did pregnancy announcement photos and maternity portraits for Gwen’s parents, so when it came time to meet her I was so excited! Little Gwen has had her own strong personality from day one, and I can’t wait to see who she grows up to become. With 3 older brothers, her fierce determination is certain to be a great trait. I met Heather and James at a park in Ann Arbor to capture beautiful outdoor images for some of Gwen’s milestone sessions. And milestones they were! I was excited to hear Gwen began sitting independently right after her 6-month sitter session. For her one-year photo session, we did more traditional portraits as well as a cake smash. Gwen’s mom, Heather, runs a small business in Milan, MI called Finchy Cakes. As she bakes cakes and […]
